Liner Notes:

The music on this CD is a wonderful example of the positive effect that our contemporary world can have on the art. In particular the art of improvisation. I hesitate to use Jazz to describe this music to you. Of course it is jazz improvisation but it is also much more.

This is Tim's first recording as a leader and it immediately identifies him as a pianist and composer of unusual depth for his young 22 years. I'm flatterd that he aked me to write these notes. I - along with Walter Norris, Joanne Brackeen and Bob degen - have taught Tim over the last years. His growth and development have impressed me and his peers as well.

"Composition is selective improvisation". I have always loved this quote from Stravinsky, one of the most significant composers of what is now called modern music along with Bartók, Debussy, Ives and Schönberg. Their explosive works of the early part of the 20th century gave contemporary Jazz a heavy source to draw upon. And Tim is well along his way of absorbing their innovations as well.
Tim's devotion is one of his strongest qualities. His playing and especially his writing shows real accomplishment and most importantly to me the beginning of his own personal voice within the many influences of his still growing and blossoming style.
